Here are three basic means to acquire a digital image:

  • Direct: fastest method, requires a sensor that records the image–an electronic receptor that is specially coated. In a similar manner that you would place a film packet, the sensor is placed in the oral cavity.
  • Indirect: slowest method, requires a conventional dental radiograph.
  • Semi-indirect: requires a special sensor called a photostimuable phosphor plate (PSP) and a special scanner.

I am a pt dental assistant and a mom. I am interested in working pt from home doing billing for dental offices. How can I go about finding an employer?

, ,

I can get an associates degree from a community college for a dental assistant, but it looks like I can get a bachelor’s from a four year. I’m just trying to do it the quickest and cheapest way, which from the looks of it would be through the community college. Does anyone know where I need to go?

, ,

I’d like to go to school to become a dental assistant but noticed there are courses for ‘Dental Assistant I’ and ‘Dental Assistant II’. Which is the better one to take?

For those who are currently looking for dental insurance coverage, there are options open to you that you probably have never thought about. In order to find dental insurance that is affordable and offers you the coverage you and/or your family needs, sometimes you have to think outside the box. Below is a list of places to look for dental coverage that you may not have thought about.

1) State funded dental programs. While these programs used to be only available to the poor and unemployed, many states now offer plans that people in the middle class can qualify for. Not only are these plans very inexpensive, they usually offer a big list of participating dentists for you to see as well. Call your state health department for more information.

2) Private discount groups. As the need for affordable dental care grows, so do the amount of these private groups that are being formed to help their members get affordable dental work. You don’t have to pay expensive premiums, just a one time membership fee. For being a member, you have access to the group’s usually large list of dentists that offer discounted work. This option is best for individuals and for those looking to get cheap cosmetic dental work done.

3) Business groups. There are more and more business networking groups that are offering discounts on dental coverage to their members because they have worked out an agreement with the insurance company. This is a great option for those who are self employed because not only do you get access to cheap dental insurance when you do, you can gain business contacts and referrals at the same time.

Do you have health insurance? Hopefully, you do because of the strong importance of it. Without insurance coverage, medical needs will cost you dearly. When you think of health insurance, you probably think of doctor visits, surgical procedures, etc., but there is more to be covered.

One such thing is your teeth. You need your teeth to be healthy if you want to keep them for a long time. You should brush and floss everyday, but you should also have periodic visits at the dentist for a cleaning. Sometimes you really can’t avoid the dentist if you need work done such as filling a cavity or doing a root canal.

Dental work can also be expensive. If you pay for it all yourself out of pocket, it will add up fast and some people just can’t afford it. Often on health insurance plans, the dental insurance coverage is just not enough. This will require you to get some sort of supplemental dental insurance.

Check with your current health insurance provider to see what they offer as far as dental insurance. If you are covered by your employer’s benefit package and your dental coverage is lacking, you will need to find a company that offers supplemental coverage for what you need at an affordable price. Shop around for good coverage but make sure you are not spending so much that you might as well pay for the work out of pocket. In that case, it wouldn’t be worth it. This type of supplement is also very beneficial for those who are covering a family.

Dry mouths are also known as “XEROSTOMIA”. It is a lack of saliva that causes tooth decay and halitosis. You will encounter difficulty in talking and eating when you had dry mouth. So you better consult your dentist because it can be a sign of other disease or may cause many complications. Sometimes dry mouth is caused by too much stress or if you feel nervous. It can also be because of side effects in taking medicines or medical treatments. Another cause of it is when you undergo chemotherapy, radiation therapy or if you have nerve injury. Some of the symptoms of dry mouth are thick saliva, rough tongue, crack lips, mouth sore, and an infection in the mouth and dry feeling in the throat. Treatment of dry mouth depends on the cause so it is necessary that you consult your dentist before you take any medicine. It is also advisable that you drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine. You should also avoid smoking or if you a chain smoker, quit smoking. But the best remedy for any dental problem is to practice and maintain proper dental hygiene.

Is it worth it? I’m thinking about signing up for the program, it requires 11 Saturdays to become a dental assistant. Sounds a little short. I’ve always been interested in the dental field.

There are tons of Guardian dental insurance programs out there that can rise to beat the competition when it comes to affordable rates for companies and their employees. Just as with any other purchase in life, it’s important to go behind the scenes and see what you’re really getting for your money. With Guardian dental insurance, it’s easy to see that you’re getting a great bargain on more than just your premium. Other dental insurance companies might have yearly caps or other costs that can cost you tons in hidden fees.

Deductibles can be tricky things. In a family program, for example, the program may have different deductible prerequisites for each person that must be met or the insurance company will pay nothing. After this goal is reached, the company will only pay for around half of the cost for certain procedures. Guardian dental insurance is different. The deductibles are typically much more affordable, and in most cases one deductible will cover every member of your family.

Add It All Up To See The Savings

One more thing that needs to be paid close attention is the yearly maximum your insurance program is willing to pay. Most insurance companies only offer $1,000 of coverage. After you take into consideration all of the premiums, co-payments, and deductibles, it’s easy to see why this amount doesn’t leave you or your family with very much breathing room. Guardian dental insurance plans have coverage options that allow up to $5,000 worth of work in a year.

Guardian Dental Insurance plans are operated through a network of qualified dental professionals. This allows Guardian dental insurance to negotiate lowered discounted prices for its members. While you may choose to visit a dentist outside of the network, the fees typically rise by about 60%. Visiting a dentist inside of the network allows you to make payments as low as 10% of the original cost.

As with most dental programs, some purely cosmetic procedures might not be included with your coverage. However, there is always the option to seek a deduction and pay the rest out of pocket.
